What is Crossfit? CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that combines weightlifting, power lifting, gymnastics, kettle bell, and medicine-ball training. CrossFit workouts are designed to increase strength, stamina, power, flexibility, speed, agility, balance, coordination and endurance. Also, given its universal scalability, CrossFit allows virtually anyone and everyone to enjoy the benefits of a broad, general and all-inclusive fitness program.
So, what does this really mean for the average Joe and the average Jane? Given the fact that the vast majority of us are not professional athletes on a professional sports team, can we really survive a CrossFit workout? The answer, without a doubt, is…YES! CrossFit 557 offers a wildly enjoyable, intense and challenging workout, complete with functional movement training and personal coaching. Most importantly, Crossfit 557 provides a rewarding, highly motivating and community-based fitness experience for all ages, shapes and sizes. Participating in a CrossFit WOD (which is CrossFit lingo for the Workout of the Day) is sure to inspire anyone who walks in the door, regardless of current skill level.
Whether you’re a CrossFit newbie or a seasoned veteran, the wide-range of modified movements and overall program scalability can be applied across the board. This makes the completion of any exercise extremely feasible for any individual. So, are you ready to give CrossFit a chance? Our awesome coaches at CrossFit 557 are certainly ready to prove they can help anyone accomplish their personal fitness goals and reach their maximum potential!
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO COME IN?
At CrossFit 557, we promote three days working, followed by 1 day of rest, or five days on, two days off. This is very demanding. You will notice that we program a workout every day for the simple reason that most people have hectic lives and cannot follow a strict three days on, one day off. When you first start out, your body will need time to adjust, as with anything else. It is very likely you will get sore in the beginning stages and due to this fact, we recommend coming every other day.
AM I TOO OLD TO START CROSSFIT?
Because CrossFit uses natural, functional movements, anybody can do it. You are never too old to start working out! Remember every workout is as hard as YOU make it.
I HAVE HEARD CROSSFIT IS HARD….. IS THIS TRUE?
CrossFit is as hard as you make it. When you first start, you are encouraged to take it slow and learn the movements. We encourage you to push yourself a little farther every day, which is why CrossFit can be intense. Our athletes find themselves doing things they’ve never been able to do before, which, in turn encourages them to set new, more difficult goals. This process isn’t easy, but it is definitely worth it! We truly believe in the statement, “CrossFit doesn’t get easier…..you just get better!”
WHAT ABOUT THE COST?
Although CrossFit is an instructional based training concept with qualified instructors running each and every class, we are actually much less expensive than most fitness studios and personal trainers. Most facilities will run anywhere from $60-$70 per session and still do not offer the overall quality of training and programming that we offer at CrossFit 557. The beautiful part of our pricing structure is that you will never be asked to pay $60-$70 per session. Instead, in many cases, our program can be as inexpensive as $6 to $7 per session. Please feel free to check out our "Become #557STRONG" page for your FREE orientation session.
I HAVEN’T BEEN PHYSICALLY ACTIVE FOR QUITE SOME TIME. DO I NEED TO START WORKING OUT AT A REGULAR GYM FIRST BEFORE STARTING CROSSFIT?
CrossFit is designed for people of ALL fitness levels — from a so-called “couch potato” to a professional athlete. All workouts are scalable and modified to each individual’s fitness level and ability. Going to a traditional health club first will only delay the benefits you will receive from a CrossFit regimen. The workout you see posted on the site is the baseline and we can increase or decrease load, intensity, and length from there. Don’t let the sight of a tough workout scare you away because you see components of it that you are currently unable to do. Know that we can scale every movement and every workout until you are strong/fit enough to complete the workout as it is prescribed. Fitness is an ongoing pursuit.
CAN I DO CROSSFIT WITH A NECK, BACK, OR KNEE INJURY?
Yes, we have had numerous clients who came to us with back, knee, or neck pain who have found relief by strengthening the muscles around the problem area. People often neglect exercising their lower back due to fear of re-injuring and, in time, end up weak, de-conditioned, and more susceptible to injury in the future. Every movement in CrossFit is scalable, allowing anyone to take part. For example if we have programmed deadlifts (picking up an object off the ground), you can scale it down using a PVC pipe or even just mimicking the movement without weight as rehab.
HOW CAN I DETERMINE IF CROSSFIT 557 IS THE RIGHT FIT FOR ME?
We know CrossFit can be very intimidating, so your first day will not be very intense or difficult. You will be lead through a warm up of basic movements, taught 2-3 new basic skills and then given a workout. The intensity (how difficult the workout is) will be entirely up to you. If you feel confident in your fitness ability, you can go as hard as you want in the workout. If you have not worked out in quite some time or ever, you will be encouraged to take your time and finish the workout.
